Kurt Børge Simonsen

As a student at the Academy of Fine Arts, Kurt Børge Simonsen, in the years leading up to the so-called “wild painting”, had a legacy of managing through the use of expressionist design language and a philosophical take on the canvas. The education in the United States has led to a personal painting, influenced by the metropolitan fragmented imagery language and by artists such as Susan Rothenburg and Julian Schnabel. It was seen in the exhibition in Galleri Asbæk in 1986 and in a work like Terra Protection, a dark, saturated painting of simple, graffiti inspired characters, produced by spray.
