Anne Torpe

Anne Torpe: I find a small, flat piece of wood on the walk to my studio. And a half burned bench from one of the raves. Both will do as a ground for a drawing or a painting. I collect. Cardboard is easy to find. I ask friends and family for buckets of left over wallpaint and I find quite a lot in my own basement. While I paint, I make mistakes. Something does not work: The paint runs or will not dry in the right way, a wrong color choice, a faulty composition. I get lost. A new layer of cardboard is glued on top of the mistake. A new chance is established. Like a kind of clumsy and opaque rectifier. Other times, the painting works in the first touch - the paint is in one layer.
